Landmarks of the circuit

The long main straight
It is the circuit's main straight, about 1.5 kilometres long (1.475 km).[1],[2]
The 300R
The 300R is a very long, fast corner.[2]
Dunlop Corner
In the full layout, Dunlop Corner is a tight right-hand hairpin followed by a left-right flick.[1]
The former banked turn
The circuit was first designed as a 4-kilometre oval, but funding ran out and the rest became a road course. It opened with a banked turn, judged dangerous after fatal accidents, and removed in 1975.[2]

  • 1976-1977 — First Japanese Grands Prix of Formula 1; the 1976 race is the first F1 race held in Japan.[1]
  • 2003-2005 — Closed for a full redesign by Hermann Tilke, with asphalt run-off areas replacing gravel traps, the circuit reopens on 10 April 2005.[1],[2]
