Long Beach Street Circuit
The Long Beach street circuit in California: a 3.167 km city track inspired by Monaco, host of F1, then IndyCar and IMSA.
The Long Beach street circuit is in the city of Long Beach, California (United States). The first race, in September 1975, was a Formula 5000 event won by Brian Redman. Promoter Chris Pook drew his inspiration from the Monaco Grand Prix.[1],[2]
The current layout is 3.167 kilometres long with 11 turns.[1],[2]
The Long Beach Grand Prix has gone through several eras. It first hosted Formula 5000 in 1975, then Formula 1 with the United States Grand Prix West from 1976 to 1983. From 1984 it became a round of the CART championship, then of IndyCar, and IMSA sports car series have also raced there. This succession of championships makes it one of the oldest street races in the United States, born from a first race won by Brian Redman in September 1975.[1],[2]
